FAQ
Where does the postal data come from?
Chinese postal codes use a built-in prefix database covering all 31 provinces and 300+ major cities. For other countries (US, UK, Japan, Germany, etc.) we proxy queries to Zippopotam.us, a free public postal-code API with no rate limits or registration.
How do Chinese postal codes work?
China uses 6-digit postal codes. The first 2 digits identify the province/municipality, the 3rd digit identifies the postal district, the 4th digit identifies the county/city, and the last 2 digits identify the local delivery office. Example: 100000 = Beijing center, 200000 = Shanghai center, 518000 = Shenzhen Futian.
Why doesn't every country show up?
Some regions (Hong Kong, parts of the Middle East and Africa) historically don't use postal codes, or use formats too varied to support cheaply. We cover the ~60 countries available in Zippopotam.us plus our China database.
Is the data accurate?
Yes for prefix-level matching. Postal codes are extremely stable โ most haven't changed in decades. The Chinese prefix database covers province/city level; sub-district granularity may not be exact for every neighborhood. For mail delivery, verify with the official postal service.
